Team M45 Rallysport

Comprised of driver Martin Chung and co-driver/navigator Christa Monasch, Team M45 Rallysport has enjoyed great success in BC TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) rallies with numerous class wins and championships starting with its first event in 2003.

In 2004 the team competed in its first full BC TSD Championship season and came away with the class championship.  It also competed in its first stage rally event, the Pacific Forest Rally in October 2004.  The team has subsequently competed in the BC TSD and Western Canadian Rally Championships and organized several rallies.

Martin Chung (driver)

Martin's fascination with cars started with watching and helping his uncles work on Peugeots and Fiats in his grandparents' driveway. His first car was an '83 Mazda GLC in which he promptly swapped in twin Mikuni carbs, header, and exhaust. His next car was an '85 Nissan 300ZX Turbo which started a long fascination and admiration for Datsuns/Nissans.

The ailing 300ZX was traded in for a Nissan Pathfinder, which was the beginning of many adventures in off-road driving, rock crawling, vehicle preparation, and recovery techniques -- valuable experience for the future.  In 2002, he bought a Subaru Impreza WRX, which reignited a long-standing interest in rallying and racing. After participating in a few autocrosses, he finally decided to give rallying a try in the WCRA's novice TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) course. With his navigator not wanting to have a second go at rallying, he started to look for a navigator interested in a long-term partnership.

With luck, he managed to hook up with Christa over the Internet. With similar goals of moving to stage rally in the future, they hit it off together instantly, not to mention that Christa currently owns an '85 300ZX Turbo herself.

His first rally car was a 1995 Dodge Neon with over 306,000km purchased for $850. A few repairs later, the otherwise stock car brought in a surprising first-ever class win for the newly-minted team in the gruelling 2-day Coast to Coast 2003 TSD Rally on Vancouver Island.

After that, the rally bug bit and Martin decided to sell the Neon and upgrade to the current Subaru Impreza stage and TSD rally car.

Christa Monasch (co-driver/navigator)

Christa has been involved in the world of rally since 2001, when she tried out a club rally on Vancouver Island. The rally was so much fun that she completed the paved event series for the 2001 season. She continued competing in paved events in 2002 and began in the BC Regional events mid-season at the Gold Digger Rally in Pemberton. At her first gravel event, the team placed rather well with a 2nd place in Novice class and 5th overall. This was a sign to continue rallying and never look back.

She is a fierce competitor, but also organizes a mean rally. With several TSD rallies under her belt as an organizer – The first ever Tsunami Rally (2003), as well as the Coast to Coast Rally and Tsunami Rally this season. Tsunami is her own pet project, an annual tradition that she intends to continue as long as she is able.  Her crowning achievement as an organizer to date were the “C2C” rallies. There have never seen so many ear-to-ear grins in one room!  Christa is also the past president of the Island Rallysport Club - the Vancouver Island chapter of Rally Pacific Motorsports.

Not only does Christa organize and compete in the non-performance TSD rallies in BC, but she was also heavily involved in the debut of the Team M45 Subaru Impreza with Martin at the Pacific Forest Rally.
